Point of Sale (POS)

Who can use thisOwnerManagerCashier

The POS screen is your cash counter. Open it from the sidebar (cashiers land here on login). The scan box is focused and ready as soon as the page opens.

Run a sale — a worked example

  1. Add items. Scan a barcode, or type the SKU / barcode / product name and press Enter. The item drops into the cart. Repeat for each product.
  2. Adjust quantities. Tap a quantity in the cart to change it, or remove a line.
  3. Attach a customer (optional). For a credit sale, or to send the bill, search for the customer or quick-add a new one with a phone number. Walk-in cash sales need no customer.
  4. Apply a discount (optional). Type a rupee amount in the Discount box. The bill and GST recalculate instantly — the discount is spread across the items and tax is recomputed correctly.
  5. Take payment. Pick a method (cash / UPI / card / bank transfer). For cash, enter the amount tendered and the screen shows the change. For credit, tick “on credit” (a customer is required).
  6. Complete the sale. The receipt prints automatically.

After the sale

From the receipt you can:

  • Print receipt again,
  • 🟢 WhatsApp invoice — send the customer a link to their bill on WhatsApp,
  • New sale — clear the counter for the next customer.

Sharing needs a phone number

The WhatsApp option appears when the sale has a customer with a phone number. The customer opens a clean, customer-safe bill page — it never shows your cost or margin. See Sales & invoices.

Works offline

If the internet drops, keep billing. Each sale is saved on the device with a provisional bill number and syncs automatically when you reconnect, getting its final number then.

Good to know about offline mode
  • Sharing a bill on WhatsApp becomes available once that sale has synced.
  • Stock counts shown while offline use your shop total (per-location offline display is a later improvement).
  • Keep the till open in a single browser tab — that tab handles syncing.

Use your phone as a barcode scanner

No hardware scanner? Pair your phone’s camera:

  1. On the POS, choose Use your phone as a scanner and show the pairing QR.
  2. Scan that QR with your phone — a scanner page opens (no login needed).
  3. Point your phone at product barcodes; each scan drops into the till’s cart live.

The camera scanner also works directly in the POS on supported devices.

Selling from multiple locations

If your business has more than one shop or godown, a “Selling from” picker lets you choose which location the sale draws stock from. Single-location shops never see this. See Locations & transfers.

Tips

  • The fastest flow is scan → scan → cash → Enter — you can complete a cash sale without touching the mouse.
  • Quick-add a customer right from the payment step; you don’t have to leave the POS.
  • Returns and refunds are handled from Sales, not the POS — see Returns & credit notes.
